So you just started to play Titanfall, and something happens: You have no idea what you are doing. It’s okay, it happens to me every single time. Well, I feel like forwarding you some advice and help. Now, before we get started, I am a generation 2 pilot, and I have only been playing the game since launch. Yes, I have nothing else better to do. Let’s get into it.
Cloaking: Right in the beginning of the round you have access to the Cloaking ability. It sounds ridiculous but keep yourself from using that right out the gate. It’s a great tool. Instead, when you get towards the middle of the map, or start to scale buildings, turn it on then. Be careful though, the jet-streams from your jump jets are still visible even though you’re cloaked. Also, once you cloak and fire your weapon, you don’t go back to cloaking. The waiting period has to diminish and then it loads again. have access to the Cloaking ability. Also, A.I. controlled Titans, Turrets, Grunts and Spectres cannot see you while you’re cloaked. They will totally ignore you as you zip around the battlezone.
Cannon Fodder: If you feel like you’re not that great of a player, take time from hunting other pilots and start taking out some grunts and Spectres. They will help you get a feel for your weapon, and by killing them you unlocked various options and attachments for your weapons. Use the Minion Detector kit to point out where all the Grunts and Spectres are.
Challenges: After a couple of levels you will gain access to challenges. These are tasks to complete that will reward you with exp. These range from general playtime, to how long you used a weapon for, headshots, and you get the point. The more challenges you complete, the faster you level up to use other equipment. Some challenges will give you burn cards.
52-Pick-Up: One of the more interesting aspects of Titanfall is the ability to use burn cards. Burn cards give you bonuses to be used for either a single round, or until you die. These burn cards range from super enhanced weapons to calling in a Titan right at the beginning of a match.
Burn cards are associated to what you are doing in a match. If you use the carbine rifle, you will end up getting burn cards that focus on getting an improved rifle. If you spend a lot of time in a Titan, you will get more Titan-centric cards.
You can equip up to three per round, and you better make sure you use them. After a while, your deck of cards can fill up and you will have to either delete cards manually, or the game will randomly get rid of cards for you. So don’t use them sparingly.
Grenade Out: You have various types of ordinance weaponry. You have frag grenades which are your general “everyone knows what they are” grenades. You have arc grenades which are good for disorienting Titan’s and pilot’s visuals. They are also very good at dispatching multiple Spectres at a time. I point out that you have them because many people forget to even use them in the first place.
Also, the Smart pistol has the ability to lock onto grenades.
Eject: You can manually eject from your Titan. Hit up on the d-pad and you’ll be flying out of there. For an added effect, make sure you have Nuclear Ejection on, that way you cause a massive explosion and have the possibility to destroy multiple Titans around you.
Be weary though, if you are inside a building or under a rock formation, instead of being ejected up you’ll be ejected forward.
Volley: The Vortex Shield is a great tool, after you collect bullets and munitions and blast it back at an opponent, they could collect it too and throw it back at you. Try to anticipate this and get your finger on that dash button to get out of the way. Also, the shield changes color from blue to red as it gets weaker. Keep that in mind.
I’ll send my updates as I discover new and interesting tactics for you to use on the battlefield. No go off and fight for the Frontier!
